In California, kratom and 7-OH products sold as foods, supplements, or drugs are illegal to manufacture or sell for consumption statewide under CDPH action effective October 24, 2025. Long Beach’s Health Department has notified local retailers that kratom products are not lawful to sell in the city and may be subject to removal and penalties. Personal possession is generally not criminalized, but there is effectively a de facto commercial sales ban rather than a conventional criminal statute.

Because retail sale for consumption is prohibited statewide and actively enforced, mainstream Long Beach outlets such as smoke shops, gas stations, and supplement stores are expected to have largely removed kratom products from shelves; any remaining availability would be noncompliant and at enforcement risk.
