Direct answer

Beginners start at 1g. Most regular users settle in the 3–5g moderate range. Above 8g, side effects dominate. Redose no sooner than 45 minutes. A gram scale beats eyeballing — variance between scoops is significant.

Strongly sedating. Pronounced pain relief. Motor impairment — do not drive. Nausea risk rises.

Heavy

Full sedation, risk of vomiting, wobbles (eye-focus issues). Next-day fatigue. Not recommended.

Weight-adjusted dosing

A larger person generally needs more to feel the same effects, but individual sensitivity varies more than weight. Rough adjustment:

  • Under 140 lb: start at the lower end of each range
  • 140–200 lb: middle of each range
  • Over 200 lb: upper end is OK, but still never start above 2g

Extract vs leaf — different dose scale

Extract products use milligrams of mitragynine rather than grams of leaf. 20mg of mitragynine extract ≈ 1–2g of leaf. Read the label and calibrate — extract shots that list "75mg MIT" are equivalent to roughly 4–8g of leaf kratom.

Tolerance and dose creep

Daily users often drift upward — 3g becomes 4g becomes 6g within a few months. This is the tolerance curve. The fix is NOT to keep raising your dose; it is to take scheduled breaks.

How much mitragynine is in 1g of kratom?

Average commercial leaf contains 1–2% mitragynine by weight. So 1g of kratom powder contains ~10–20mg mitragynine. Extract products can contain 100mg+ mitragynine per gram — read the label.

How does vein color affect the dose I need?

Less than you might think. 3g of red and 3g of white will be similar in intensity but different in character — red is more sedating, white more stimulating. Pick a dose range based on desired intensity, pick a vein based on desired quality.

Is there a maximum safe dose?

Above 8g per session you enter territory where nausea, wobbles, and next-day fatigue begin to dominate. Above 15g you risk acute toxicity including vomiting, dehydration, and — combined with other substances — respiratory depression. There is no benefit to going past 8g.

How often can I redose?

Wait 45 minutes before your first redose. Stacking doses within 30 minutes produces erratic effects and faster tolerance buildup. Most users find 1–2 doses per day the sustainable cap.
