Kratom Alkaloids: Reading the Chemistry
An alkaloid result describes what was measured in a sample. It does not by itself establish how a product will affect you or whether it is safe.

Start with the units
A report may show percent by weight, milligrams per gram, or milligrams per container. Check that the result applies to the actual product, sample, and lot. A percentage without a clear denominator is difficult to interpret.
Mitragynine and 7-OH
These are among the most studied kratom-related compounds. The body can convert mitragynine into 7-hydroxymitragynine. Studying that process does not validate retail strength claims or a universal dose conversion.
Beyond an alkaloid panel
A potency panel and a contaminant panel answer different questions. Look for named analytes, test methods, detection limits, dates, and matching batch identifiers. A missing test should not be read as a passing result.
